We did nothing wrong but somehow we failed…
Marketing has got itself into a bit of a hole. Its come to be synonymous with sales, lead generation, advertising, promotion, “digital”, brand awareness among other tactical activities. Not in themselves a problem, except we’ve become detached from what marketing was supposed to be about: the co-ordinating function to produce increasing profits from the only source of them; the customer.
Whilst we’ve become focused on tactics, the strategic part has been neglected. Somebody, has to take up the reins, and it doesn’t matter who as long as they do.
That’s what this website is all about; and I’m talking to my people – the engineers and technologists who are the source of customer value in their organisations.
If they are equipped to understand the customer better then the whole organisation benefits. And maybe we can all avoid going the way of Nokia, Blackberry and others.
We are not special, and somebody out there want to eat our lunch…
It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer who pays the wages.
